The long term goal of Project Quantum is to fund the development of a new AAA game which will use our coin as in-game currency. This is an innovative new way of establishing a game studio and will allow us to quickly expand our development team.
What is the status of the game right now?
Currently, the game is in pre-productuction. The team is working hard every day to establish and refine the game’s fundamentals and create a foundation of robust documentation before we launch. This stage is crucial, and it will be particularly important in the coming weeks as we expand our team and bring in new talent to work on the game. It’s all about creating a unified vision and plan so that everyone who joins us is on the same page and can work as efficiently as possible.
What will the game be like?
We believe game development works best as an evolving, iterative process and, as such, we have chosen to adopt an agile development methodology. This means we will be constantly prototyping and testing new features, gathering feedback and adjusting the game accordingly. Some parts of the game may change dramatically as a result of this process. As we hire additional developers, they will bring their own ideas and expertise to the project, making it hard, at this early stage, to truthfully predict what the game will eventually look like.
Additionally, the achievable scope and development speed of the game will be directly affected by the success of the coin. We have designed the game allowing for this so that we can scale our concept depending on the resources available to us.
As much as we would love to announce some juicy gameplay mechanics or details about our immersive world right now, it really would be reckless to do so. Revealing too much would simply hamper our ability to make necessary creative decisions further down the line. As we move further into development, lock in our teams and prove our concepts, we will be able to confirm a lot more and will be excited to share our progress. Ultimately, we want to do everything we can to ensure we deliver the best game possible.
What can you tell us now?
First of all the game will be built using Unreal Engine 5. This is the latest addition of Epic Games’ industry leading engine, which will preview later this year. Despite it not yet being released, with the help of forward compatibility, we can start developing right away in Unreal Engine 4 and migrate the project to UE5 as soon as it is released, tested and stable.
Unreal Engine 5 has some really exciting features that look set to shake up how we develop games and the quality of work we will be able to produce. You can find out more about Unreal Engine 5 HERE.
Lastly, I will say that a core aspect of the game right now involves competitive treasure hunting. Which means you can also expect multiplayer gameplay on a large scale. Party up, and compete against others to find rare and valuable artifacts, or die trying. These themes perfectly complement our plans to integrate our coin into the game.
I’ve said too much…
